Meet the judges

In this post, we will share the wonderfull people that are willing to be the judges at our event the 12th of May!

Prof. Shirin Faraji

Prof. Shirin Faraji received her Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemistry from Heidelberg University in 2010. Upon completing postdoctoral training at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, she started her Habilitation at the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing of Heidelberg University. She has also spent two years at the University of Southern California as a German Academic Exchange Service visiting researcher. From March 1 2017, Dr. Faraji holds the chair in Theoretical Chemistry at the University of Groningen. Her research is centered around the development of hybrid classical/quantum dynamical methods for studies of light-induced processes and quantum effects in biomolecules and novel materials. She currently acts as the secretary of Computational and Theoretical Chemistry division at KNCV, board of Q-Chem Inc., one of the world’s leading quantum chemistry software, as well as board of Young Academy Groningen.

Dr. Marc Esteve Del Valle

Dr. Marc Esteve Del Valle is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Media and Journalism Studies at the University of Groningen (the Netherlands). He has previously held positions as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Social Media Lab (Toronto, Canada) and as a PhD researcher at the Internet Interdisciplinary Institute (Barcelona, Spain). His research and teaching interests lie at the intersection between new media, digital democracy and social networks. His works examine the societal implications of people and organizations’ communications in online social networks. Methodologically, he employs a combination of methods, large datasets, and computational social science techniques.

Monique Schoondorp

My name is Monique Schoondorp (1963), I am trained as a polymer chemist and received my PhD from the University of Groningen in polymer physics. I started my professional career at TNO, an applied research institute where I was involved in knowledge transfer. That experience brought me to GBB, a biotech institute of the University of Groningen and I was co-founder of the nanotech institute Biomade Technology in the Netherlands. I have a broad interest in innovation and science, and I ‘m active in knowledge transfer for more than 20 years. Since 2002 I have started my own companies with the drive is to contribute to a more sustainable world while doing my job. I have never left the academic world completely and during the years 2011-2015 I was professor at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences directed to new business, biobased and circular economy. For 12 years, I have been managing partner at Omega Green, a company devoted to large scale algae culturing and at this moment I am running a new company “Echt Duurzaam”.

Mark de la Vieter

Mr. Mark de la Vieter MSc MScBA is Cluster Manager System Integration at New Energy Coalition. Has been active in renewable energy project development and Smart Grid R&D development for over 12 years. Expert on (offshore) system integration and optimization of energy flows, optimization of business cases and bringing innovative ideas to the market. Master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering, Strategic Management, and Finance and Investments. Guest lecturer at Delft University of Technology and Hanze University of Applied Sciences.

Eva Pantelakis

Eva Pantelakis (1985) has been an entrepreneur for 10 years. Via her company Zoooeva, she teaches people to speak, sparkle & survive in front of groups. Being rather shy as a child, she knows what it takes to help people come out of their comfort zone and present themselves authentically. For 6 years, she has been involved as a presentation trainer at different departments of the University of Groningen. She trained Honours students to express themselves more as a leader. She helps candidates for Veni, Vidi and Vici grants to improve their pitch for the NWO. She does this with a lot of positive energy & with result.
